Characteristics of pediatric injuries due to road traffic accidents and their effects on mortality

BackgroundAim: Road traffic accident (RTA)-related injuries may cause morbidity and mortality in childhood. We aimed to investigate these terms of affected body regions, time the accident, gender, age, determine factors affecting mortality, evaluate casualties' demographic features discharge status. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients aged under 18 years who were victims RTAs presented emergency department our tertiary university hospital between 01/01/2015 31/12/2019. Patients' time, mechanism region, type injury, clinical outcomes recorded analyzed. Results: A total 137 pediatric met inclusion criteria, among which 95 (67.2%) males, 42 (32.8%) females. Five six died males. most occurred summer (45.3%), August (17.5%) on Saturdays (25.5%). Among systems, extremity ranked first (36.5%), head traumas second (30.7%). Conclusion: In study, presentations with out vehicle accidents (OVTAs) (motorcycle, bicycle, agricultural vehicle, or pedestrian) more common (75.1%). Pediatric caused many injuries, especially traumas, serious children 15 age. patients, intracranial hemorrhage, rib fractures, liver lacerations evaluated as severe injuries. Because limited number cases, we could not effects child mortality.
